Moderate brightness, peach notes, and floral hints with an overlay of chocolate roast taste and dense body. In fact that might be the reason I liked this coffee with a little more roast on it. The chocolate bittersweet tang is really pleasant at this level, while lemon hints come through to vivify the cup flavors. Full City to Full City+.

A very unique cup that has features of both a wet- and dry-process coffee, brighter than most naturals, but certainly has the fruited notes and body of that process method. Layers of peaches, mango and apricot, herbal notes (coriander, and lemongrass), and thick, opaque mouthfeel. City+ to Full City+

Kenya Kirinyaga Kiunyu Peaberry $9.20 add to cartLimit 1 pound
The cup has mild honeysuckle floral notes and delicate acidity at all roast levels. There's a bit of black tea dryness in the finish at City+ and Full City. While not being a more "showy" Kenya, it's refinement makes for an approachable and enjoyable cup. City to Full City+.

The warm cup has cherry and pineapple notes and tangerine acidity complimented by the brightness of slightly under-ripe peaches. There is an incredibly creamy mouthfeel at all roast levels. As the cup cools there's some floral clove. City+ to Full City.

Let this coffee rest after roasting! The winey and jammy acidity is fully integrated into the syrupy body and there's more complexity to the sweetness, with caramel and vanilla present at FC. This is not the most citric or acidic Kenya, and some will find it less compelling as such. City+ to Full City.

A complex and surprisingly bright coffee, mild at first but intensifies greatly as it cools. Fruity, vinegary, musty, ack! Here is an example of unclean fruity flavors. Our thumbs down selection for the next few months, this is a textbook case of processing taint. Heavy body, cloying fruity notes, slightly rotten coffee cherry flavor, musty scent and flavors in the finish, medicinal. City+ shows the taint the best. Try to disguise it with FC+ roast too. You can't.

Sweet Maria's
Green Coffee
Sampler Packages*

Trying a sampler is the best way in my opinion to get started home roasting. Especially if you are not sure what coffee to choose. We can not promise a particular origin in the sampler. In the 4 Pound and 8 Pound Samplers, we try to include a coffee from every coffee growing continent, and a range of processes. Some folks have suggested that having a larger quantity of a single bean that takes a range of roasts is a better way to learn roasting - I think getting a range of flavors so you can start to see the difference origin makes is better. The choice is up to you really.

Samplers are a great value - if you ordered the same coffees ala cart from our list - you would spend 20 to 25% more! And all the coffees inthe samplers are the same quality as what we offer on the list - no bargain basement special.

You will be prompted to choose the size of sampler and coffees you want in the sampler - all regular, all decaf, half decaf/half regular, or espresso. The selection on the espresso sampler contains some of our blends and some other single origins good for espresso straight or blended. There is a small premium on 1/2 decaf-1/2 regular and all decaf samplers as those coffees are more expensive.

The 4 Pound Sampler:
four great coffees, 1 Lb. of Each

from $20.50* (+ 4 Lbs. shipping)

...a careful selection from Indonesia, Africa, South America and Central America,
(our choice) -1 pound of each.

(note: 4lb espresso sampler will be mostly/all espresso blends)

One sampler per order, please

Sweet Maria's Green Coffee Cupping Reviews are ratings of every coffee we offer based on the pre-shipment cuppings that determine what we will buy, and the arrival cuppings when the shipment actually shows up at our shop. What makes Sweet Maria's unique is our rigorous daily cupping practices used to weed out great coffees from so-so ones; every coffee on our list represents many that were rejected!
